OPENWAVE ANNOUNCES CONTEXTUAL MERCHANDISING SOLUTION TO HELP OPERATORS MONETIZE OFF-NET TRAFFIC
Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced the Openwave® Contextual Merchandising solution, an end-to-end targeted content and promotions solution that will help drive the consumption of mobile content and create off-deck revenue opportunities for mobile operators.
“The ability to leverage subscriber knowledge to deliver personalized, contextually aware services are opening up new revenue opportunities for operators,” said Peter Galvin, senior vice president of products and marketing, Openwave. “Whether consumers are on-portal or traveling off-net, operators now have the opportunity to further promote their own content, or that of third parties, through new applications like Openwave Contextual Merchandising. This translates to higher revenue realization for the current content portfolio and new sources of revenue via third-party advertising partners.”
The Openwave Contextual Merchandising solution enables the delivery of personalized content and advertising that is recommended to subscribers based on their user context and profile. The solution focuses on two key ways operators can monetize off-deck traffic:
• Creates opportunities to promote and merchandise complementary content and services based on a subscriber’s preferences and current usage patterns
• Delivers relevant and highly targeted third-party advertising
The ability of the Openwave Contextual Merchandising solution to track and monetize off-deck traffic is powered by the Openwave® Profiling and Personalization System (OPPS), also announced today. OPPS provides a recommendation and categorization engine and campaign manager that ensures what is being promoted is directly relevant to the subscriber.
In support of its contextual merchandising strategy, Openwave also today announced its collaboration with JumpTap to allow advertisers to target individuals based on an optimal blend of profile and context.
Openwave Contextual Merchandising and Openwave OPPS are part of Openwave’s Adaptive Mobility suite, which enables operators to deliver personalized, easy-to-use, and revenue-generating services for content and communications across all networks and devices. This suite of solutions is supported by Openwave’s carrier-scale infrastructure and delivers the ability to transform the total mobile and wireline Internet experience.
